Mental health and wellbeing

We put a huge focus on wellbeing at preschool because we know that if a child isn’t happy, if they are upset or struggling to settle or deal with changes at home then they will not be able to form strong attachments with staff or peers at preschool nor will they be able to fully access our curriculum.

We use a a variety of different approaches at preschool to support children’s mental health and wellbeing, here’s just some of them:

  • stories to support topics

  • puppets to act out scenarios

  • circle and group time to talk about and share experiences

  • mindfulness activities - from eagle breathing to the Buddhist bell

  • 5 to thrive self regulation practice

  • music therapy

  • yoga

  • and many more…

In order to support our children’s wellbeing we all need to take care of our own mental health.
