Special needs
What if my child has a special educational need? Please share as much information about your child’s needs as you can, we are experienced in all sorts of special needs and are here to support, your child and their family. We have a SEND Guide to help you understand more about what we offer, please see our website.
What if my child needs 1:1 support because of a special need? We work together with the Central Bedfordshire SEND advisory team as well as lots of other specialist agencies to assess and refer children, if we believe they may need 1:1 support, we can apply for funding, though it is not always successful, we will use our experience to work with you on this. If funding is granted, the likelihood is it would not be for the whole time your child is with us each week. We would offer you sessions based on our staffing availability.
What if my child’s 1:1 support staff is off? Most SEND children will share a support worker and our staff move between the children so that no one gets too attached to their support worker, this only causes problems if they are absent. If a support worker is absent, we will assess our support staffing levels and try to ensure we can still offer your child the session, sometimes we unfortunately may not be able to accommodate your child.
What is DAF and what does it do? This stands for Disability Allowance Fund. If your child receives Disability Living Allowance, which can be claimed for a child between 3 and 16 who has difficulties walking or needs much more looking after than a child of the same age who does not have a disability, then on evidence of your qualifying letter preschool can claim DAF money. This can be used to support preschool to make reasonable adjustments to our setting with new resources. You would need to nominate our setting on your termly funding form.
