Weather and clothing

What should my child wear? We have a recommended kit list in the New Starter Guide, SEND Guide and Adventure Friday handbook. All children must come prepared for every session. We also sell a preschool uniform: polo shirts, jumpers and sun hats.

What happens if my child gets hot in all their waterproof gear? We are an outdoor setting, staff are therefore always aware of children’s clothing, they will be encouraged to take off coats if its too hot and put hats on for example if the sun is out.

Where should I get clothing from? We recommend getting waterproof coats, dungarees, and gloves from Lidl (where they’re available in the ‘middle aisle’ every couple of months), Waterproof World or Little Trekkers. All offer good quality, well priced ranges. Worth checking out in the summer when things are often on sale.

For base layers you can get thermals or sports skins as well as waterproof boots from Decathlon, Sports Direct, or Mountain Warehouse. . Most items can also be bought at Muddy Puddles, you can sign up to get their emails and be notified when there a sale on. You can get a great 8 litre backpack from Mountain Warehouse which has space for a water bottle and the right size for the children and should fit everything in.

What happens if it rains? We get wet! We are out in all weathers; this is why it’s so important to make sure your child comes properly dressed every day. Children are happy in any weather as long as they are dressed appropriately for it.

What happens if my child gets cold? As long as you dress your child appropriately, please see our new starter guide, your child is unlikely to get cold. Children are only likely to get cold if they are not prepared clothes wise or if they get very wet in freezing weather, it is important to provide a full set of spare clothing for them. They spend a lot of time moving around and this helps keep everyone warm. Our new polytunnel is multipurpose and is used as a shelter in times of extreme weather.

What should my child wear when it’s really hot? Please see the new starter guide for clothing advice for the summer. In cases of extreme heat, we will be in touch to advise on clothing etc. Your child still needs to bring their waterproofs on hot days. If they get too hot, staff are on hand to keep an eye on them and help them take a layer off.

Does my child need to wear wellies every day? Your child doesn’t need to wear wellies to every session, but they must bring a pair of waterproof boots with them every day. Children can wear other forms of footwear, but they must be appropriate to the weather and nothing open toed. It is worth remembering that your child will be climbing, playing in water, and running around a lot.

Do you have a uniform? Yes we do, we offer jumpers, polo shirts and sun hats all with our logo on. They are a fantastic way to stop you worrying about getting your child’s usual clothes dirty!

What happens if I can’t afford to buy uniform or the proper clothing for my child? If you are in receipt of universal credit or 2 year funding please let us know as there are a number of benefits we can offer you including free waterproofs. If your child is in receipt of 15 hours universal funding, please complete the back of your child’s funding form with your national insurance number as this may allow us to claim further benefits for you, e.g. the household support grant.
